CLEANING AND INSPECTION
WARNING
Solvent cleaning compound MIL-PRF-680 Type III is an environmentally compliant and low toxic
material. However, it may be irritating to the eyes and skin. Use protective gloves and goggles. Use in
well-ventilated areas. Keep away from open flames and other sources of ignition.
Particles blown by compressed air are hazardous. DO NOT exceed 15 psi (103 kPa) nozzle pressure
when drying parts with compressed air. Use a maximum of 30 psi (207 kPa) when cleaning compo-
nents. DO NOT direct compressed air against human skin. Failure to follow this warning may result in
injury or death. Make sure air stream is directed away from user and other personnel in the area. To pre-
vent injury, user must wear eye protection.
1.
Remove all gasket material from mounting surfaces.
2.
Clean all parts with solvent.
3.
Dry all parts with compressed air.
4.
Inspect all parts for damage and replace as necessary.
ASSEMBLY
NOTE
Lightly coat all new seals and preformed packing with clean oil prior to installation.
1.
Use clean oil to lubricate two plungers (25).
2.
Install pipe plug (27) in filter base (2).
3.
Install two plungers (25), springs (24), new gaskets (23), covers (22), four washers (21) and bolts (20) on filter base (2).
4.
Apply silicone compound to half of threads on stud (39).
5.
Install stud (39). Torque stud to 62 lb-ft (84 Nm).
6.
Install new preformed packings (28 and 29).
7.
Install adapter (37) on filter base (2).
8.
Install two bolts (31).
9.
Install two new preformed packings (42) and plugs (41).
10. Install new preformed packing (19) in groove of adapter (18).
11. Install adapter (18) on filter base (2).
12. Install bolts (11 and 17).
13. Install new preformed packing (16), plug (15), new preformed packings (12 and 13) and plug (14).
14. Install new preformed packing (10) and connector (9).
INSTALLATION
1.
Install two new seals (3) and two new seals (4) in grooves of filter base (2).
2.
Install filter base (2) and ensure it is seated properly with oil cooler (5).
3.
Install two bolts (1), two bolts (6) and two bolts (38) loosely.
4.
Install bolt (40) and two bolts (26).
5.
Tighten bolts (1), bolts (6) and bolts (38).
6.
Connect tube assembly (7) on oil filter adapter (18).
7.
Tighten nut (8).
8.
Install two new preformed packings (36) on hose assemblies (30 and 32).
