CLEANING AND INSPECTION
Solvent cleaning compound MIL-PRF-680 Type III is an environmentally compliant and low toxic
material. However, it may be irritating to the eyes and skin. Use protective gloves and goggles. Use in
well-ventilated areas. Keep away from open flames and other sources of ignition.
Particles blown by compressed air are hazardous. DO NOT exceed 15 psi (103 kPa) nozzle pressure
when drying parts with compressed air. Use a maximum of 30 psi (207 kPa) when cleaning compo-
nents. DO NOT direct compressed air against human skin. Failure to follow this warning may result in
serious injury or death. Make sure air stream is directed away from user and other personnel in the area.
To prevent injury, user must wear protective goggles or face shield.
Remove all seal material from mounting surfaces.
Clean all parts with solvent.
Dry all parts with compressed air.
Inspect all parts for damage and replace as necessary.
Install dowel pin (7) in crankshaft assembly (1).
Install six plugs (6).
Insulated gloves must be worn when handling heated parts. Severe burns will result if unprotected skin con-
tacts heated surfaces. If you are injured, seek medical attention immediately.
Use oven to heat inner and outer gears (3 and 5) to a maximum temperature of 400F (204C).
Install inner gear (5) on crankshaft assembly (1).
Install dowel pin (2) in end of crankshaft assembly (1). Dowel pin (2) must extend no more than 0.19 in. (4.83 mm) from
surface of crankshaft assembly (1).
Install new spacer (4).
Dowel pin (2) in crankshaft assembly must be in alignment with notch in outer gear.
Install outer gear (3) with the "V" marks facing out and aligned with dowel pin (2).
Install flywheel bolts on each end of crankshaft assembly (1).
Install lifting device on flywheel bolts.
Use lifting device to install crankshaft assembly (1) in block.
Remove flywheel bolts from each end of crankshaft assembly (1).
