START ENGINE - CONTINUED

Partially depress accelerator pedal and hold during cranking.
CAUTION
Do NOT crank starter motor for more than 30 seconds at a time. After 30 seconds, allow starter motor to
cool for at least two minutes before attempting to start engine again. Excessive heating of starter motor may
result in damage or premature starter failure.

Push in and turn start switch to START position. When engine starts, release start switch.
CAUTION
Turbocharger damage can result if engine RPM is not kept low until oil pressure is sufficient and gage is in
the green range.
j.
Release accelerator pedal after engine has started.
k.
If engine oil pressure does not rise within 10 seconds after engine starts, stop engine by pulling up on accelerator
pedal and perform troubleshooting.
After engine has started, proceed to Machine Warmup in this work package.

Starting Engine Below 32F (0C) Using Ether Starting Aid.
a.
Ensure scraper bowl is lowered.
b.
Ensure parking brake is applied (parking brake control knob pulled out).
c.
Ensure transmission is in N (Neutral) with shift lever locked.
d.
Ensure all machine hydraulic control levers are in center HOLD position.
e.
Ensure all accessories are off.
f.
Ensure all personnel are clear of machine.
g.
Insert battery disconnect switch key and turn to left (ON) position.
h.
Partially depress accelerator pedal and hold during cranking.
CAUTION
Do NOT crank starter motor for more than 30 seconds at a time. After 30 seconds, allow starter motor to cool
for at least 2 minutes before attempting to start engine again. Excessive heating of starter motor may result in
damage or premature starter failure.
After 7 starting attempts (30 seconds of cranking followed by a 2-minute wait), wait for 30 minutes before next
starting attempt, at which time only carry out four 30-second cranking cycles then wait 30 minutes before next
attempt.

Push in and turn start switch to START position.
