Position turbocharger assembly in fixture assembly so that impeller (7) is facing up.
NOTE
Ensure dial indicator is calibrated and foot does not make contact with sides of impeller; otherwise, it will be
impossible to obtain an accurate reading.

Install dial indicator on top of shaft and wheel assem-
bly (6).

Use dial indicator to measure end play of shaft and
wheel assembly (6). Shaft end play must not be greater
FOOT

than 0.007 in. (0.1778 mm) and not less than 0.003 in.
(0.0762 mm). Repair turbocharger if measurements do
not fall within these limits.

Remove dial indicator.

Loosen nut (8).

Separate shaft and wheel assembly (6) from housing
assembly (2).

Position shaft and wheel assembly (6) in holding fix-
ture.
