CLEANING AND INSPECTION
WARNING
Solvent cleaning compound MIL-PRF-680 Type III is an environmentally compliant and low toxic
material. However, it may be irritating to the eyes and skin. Use protective gloves and goggles. Use in
well-ventilated areas. Keep away from open flames and other sources of ignition.
Particles blown by compressed air are hazardous. DO NOT exceed 15 psi (103 kPa) nozzle pressure
when drying parts with compressed air. Use a maximum of 30 psi (207 kPa) when cleaning compo-
nents. DO NOT direct compressed air against human skin. Failure to follow this warning may cause
injury or death. Make sure air stream is directed away from user and other personnel in the area. To pre-
vent injury, user must wear protective goggles or face shield.
1.
Clean metal parts of brake assembly with solvent cleaning compound. Do not use a metal brush on brake assembly or to
apply the solvent cleaning compound.
2.
Dry brake assembly using clean rags.
3.
Clean brake assembly again using soap and water. Apply with a soft bristle brush or a cloth.
ASSEMBLY
1.
Lubricate with grease and install expansion plug (20), gear (19), worm (21) and shaft (22).
2.
Install ball (23), spring (24) and bushing insulator (18).
3.
Install dust shields (12 and 14).
4.
Position covers (15 and 17) on slack adjustor (4).
5.
Install five new rivets (13).
6.
Install new bushing (16) on slack adjustor (4).
INSTALLATION
NOTE
Install seals with lip toward differential case. Install even with surface of axle housing.
1.
Install bearings (7 and 10) and new seals (6, 8 and 11) in axle housing.
2.
Install washers (5 and 9) and camshaft (3).
