CLEANING AND INSPECTION
WARNING
Solvent cleaning compound MIL-PRF-680 Type III is an environmentally compliant and low toxic
material. However, it may be irritating to the eyes and skin. Use protective gloves and goggles. Use in
well-ventilated areas. Keep away from open flames and other sources of ignition.
Particles blown by compressed air are hazardous. DO NOT exceed 15 psi (103 kPa) nozzle pressure
when drying parts with compressed air. Use a maximum of 30 psi (207 kPa) when cleaning compo-
nents. DO NOT direct compressed air against human skin. Failure to follow this warning may cause
injury or death. Make sure air stream is directed away from user and other personnel in the area. To pre-
vent injury, user must wear protective goggles or face shield.
1.
Clean all parts with solvent cleaning compound.
2.
Dry parts with compressed air.
3.
Inspect all parts for damage and replace damaged parts as necessary.
INSTALLATION
1.
If removed, install bushing (9) in draft frame.
WARNING
Use caution when handling heavy parts. Provide adequate support and use assistance during procedure.
Ensure that any lifting device used is in good condition of suitable load capacity. Keep clear of heavy parts
supported only by lifting device. Failure to follow this warning may cause injury or death.
NOTE
Weight of steering cylinder assembly is 200 lb (91 kg).

Install lifting device to steering cylinder assembly (6).
3.
Use lifting device to install steering cylinder assembly (6).
4.
Lubricate pins (2, 7 and 10) with grease.
5.
Install pin (2), two yokes (3), four washers (5) and bolts (4).
6.
Install pin (10), spring (8) and pin (7).
7.
Remove lifting device from steering cylinder assembly (6).
8.
Start engine.
9.
Rotate steering wheel fully, in both directions, several times.
10.
Loosen bleeder valves on right and left steering cylinder assemblies (6) to open. Leave bleeder valves open until hydrau-
lic fluid, free of air bubbles, flows from bleeder valve.
11.
Tighten bleeder valves on right and left steering cylinder assemblies (6) to close.
12.
Rotate steering wheel full left.
